Captionbench started from a simple annoyance: getting captions for a video meant either typing them by hand, or uploading your recording to someone else’s server and hoping for the best — then paying a subscription for the privilege.

So we built the tool we wanted to use. It runs entirely in your browser: your file is decoded on your device, an open transcription model listens to it on your device, and the captions it writes never travel anywhere. There is no account because there is nothing to keep an account for.

It is free because running it costs us nothing — your device does the work. If you make videos, podcasts, lectures, or voice notes, we hope it saves you an afternoon.
